A New Roof
The Markeen Apartments were in serious need of a new roof. During removal of the existing roof, we found that between 4 and 8 different layers had been added over the years.
After all of the old layers were peeled back to expose the wood decking, several areas were identified that needed replacing before the new tar roof was put down.
In the background, the new roof covering the 6 apartments facing St. Louis Avenue has been finished (white layer). The eaves around the front of the building still have all of the original red pressed tin tiles. Ninety years exposure to Texas hailstorms have dented most of them but none so badly that they need replacing.
