With downtown in the background, the Markeen Apartments sit at the corner of St. Louis and West Daggett Avenues in an area now being aggressively revitalized known as The Fort Worth South Medical District. Soon after the major fire of 1909 that destroyed many of the homes in this neighborhood, work began on this 14-unit 2-story brick building. On March 24, 1997, the City of Fort Worth included this property on its list of Historic and Cultural Landmarks. Early in the year 2000, work began to fully restore this property in accordance with the standards for historic preservation set forth by the United States Department of Interior through the National Park Service. With renovation now complete, the Markeen is the oldest apartment in Fort Worth and the City's sole surviving example of a prairie style multi-family property.
