We got a very nice surprise this month! Many of the kitchen cabinets still have the original doors in place and all this time we just assumed that they were simple wood doors. However, after starting to remove the many layers of paint from one of them, we found glass panels (above left). Where possible, these will be completely restored and should look great when we're done. At right is a view of one of the "ice doors" that I've shown in earlier updates. Those photos showed how these doors looked from out in the hallway. Here is the view from inside the kitchen cabinet.
La Salle Apartments 2005 Restoration
July photo gallery
The air conditioning units were put in during the last week of July. As you can see from the middle photo, we were putting them in the day of the big fire that burned well into the night just a few miles North of the La Salle. Inside, the crew was trying to figure out how best to istall the blowers for the A/C so they would be in the least conspicuous place.
As you might expect,"Out with the Old and in with the New" is not exactly our motto here at oldbuilding.com except when it comes to the electrical and plumbing systems. At left, you can see the old fuse boxes have been removed and are being replaced with all new and bigger panels (2nd photo from left) to accomodate the new upgraded electrical service. All of this rewiring should be done by the middle of August. The plumbers are finished for now having replaced all of the old pipe with new copper and PVC tubing (2 photos on right). They'll return after all of the interior restoration is finished and hook everything up.
How old is this Falstaff beer can? Found under the building, it's obviously been there quite a while. Drop me a note if you know the approximate year.
